Avery 5390 size and layout
Each insert is 2¼ × 3½ in (57.2 × 88.9 mm), 8 to a US Letter sheet in 2 columns and 4 rows.
Margins were not published for this sheet
Avery publishes the insert size and the count, but we could not find published page margins for 5390, and one label database lists a slightly different layout. The editor centers the grid on the page (top margin 1 in, left margin 0.75 in). Print the printer test page from the export screen (or your first page) on plain paper and hold it against a sheet before you print the rest. If every insert is off by the same amount, the printer nudge fixes it.

Source: The insert size and count come from Avery's published template page. Avery does not publish the page margins for this sheet, so the grid is centered on the page, and the open-source LibreOffice label database lists a slightly different layout. How to print on 5390-compatible sheets
- Open the layout. Use “Open this sheet in the editor” above, or pick “Avery 5390 insert (3½ × 2¼ in)” under Paper and badge size.
- Bring your names. Import an Excel or CSV file or paste rows (how the import works), then pick a template.
- Review the names the editor flags as too long, then check the proof.
- Download the PDF and open it in your PDF viewer.
- Print at 100%. Choose Actual size (or 100%), turn off Fit to page, and set the paper type to card or heavyweight paper.
- Test on plain paper first. Print page 1, or the printer test page from the export screen, on plain paper. Lay it over a real sheet and hold both up to the light. Every badge should sit inside its insert.
Partly used sheets and alignment
Partly used sheet? Choose the first empty position in the export settings and the PDF starts there. Later sheets start at position 1. Positions run left to right, top to bottom, as numbered in the diagram.
Everything off by the same amount? Your printer feeds the paper a little off. The printer nudge moves the whole page by a millimeter or two in any direction. It shifts, it never scales, so the badges stay exactly 2¼ × 3½ in.
Worse toward the edges? The PDF was scaled. Print again at Actual size with Fit to page turned off.
Using Word or Google Docs instead?
In Word you can use the built-in Avery 5390 label option with a mail merge to pull names from a spreadsheet. We don’t provide a .docx file. Our mail merge guide covers each step, or import the list here and skip the merge: names are fitted and flagged for you, and roles and QR codes come from your columns.
